Facebook travel app Gogobot just surpassed one million subscribers.
The app launched on Facebook in January, when the social network unveiled a slew of integrated apps, including Gogobot. Gogobot was in use before that time, launching in private beta 18 month ago. Now the app is exploding in popularity: A new user joins every 15 seconds, more than 5 million places have been shared on Gogobot and overall membership has grown 65x year-on-year.
Our first run through of Gogobot revealed a simple and easily navigated site and mobile app that offered sharing of travel tips and experiences between friends. From where to stay in Big Sur to the best winery and bed and breakfast in Tuscany the site is becoming more populated with helpful travel information by the day.
However, our cynical side tells us that the purity of the app will degrade over time like other review sites TripAdvisor and Yelp – whose reviews can be skewed by proprietors themselves.
But for now, the site is cool. Check it out. Share your travels and invite your friends to come along.
